Our Values.

Belong.

What is your only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but I belong...

Belonging is core to who we are as a gathered, transformed, and sent community. In fact, belonging comes first—before belief—because that is a reflection of Jesus’ love for the world. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8)

Belonging states “you don’t have to be like us to be with us” and no matter what— past, present, or future—you belong to this community.

Believe.

Belief is not a litmus test, but an invitation to be rooted to what we believe is most true.

Believe is a declaration of the hope, power, and promise of the Gospel. Even when all else seems lost, we believe that Christ has come, Christ has died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come again.

As a community, we “believe” that Scripture is God’s word, that we are created to worship the one true God, & that Salvation comes through Jesus alone who died for the world (Jn. 3:16). We value our Reformed Rootedness that is articulated in the Creeds & Confessions of the Christian Reformed Church.

Become.

Life in Christ is not a destination, but a journey of becoming more like Jesus.

Becoming is through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit as we strive not only to master Scripture, but to be mastered by it, to not only experience God, but be transformed by our experience of God, to not only love Jesus, but become more and more like Jesus. We will never arrive, but by the work of the Holy Spirit, we will continually become...

Bring.

We are a gathered community, called not only from something, but for something. 

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

“Bring” is a value that is lived out through ministries and efforts that bring the Love of Jesus to the world, by getting messy—being Jesus’ hands and feet. These are missional & scattered efforts, bringing Jesus love in vocation and through rest, through restoration and shalom, in bringing shelter, and meeting other felt and spiritual needs. As we “bring” we devote ourselves to true worship, offering our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God (Romans 12:1).

Brave.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (Jn 16:33)

Because of our assurance in Christ, we can bravely live into the future. The Church does not need to fear the future, fear complex conversations, or fear admitting when we were wrong. We do not need to back down from our troubles & challenges or insulate ourselves from the world, but we can be present and brave through the challenges. Together.
